Haiku on Freedom/ Stop/ Image/ Call

Freedom

Freedom of the mind
When you leave the world behind
And rent a retreat

On leave from the war
Clothes rent, in need of repair
Short bout of freedom

Not owning a home
Gives you the freedom to leave
But please pay the rent

Stop

Let me tell you, dear
I don't want this life to stop
It's been too much fun

Stop all the pressure
Sit and let your mind run free
Breathe gently. Accept.

Stop. Think about it.
Hundred years ago, this day.
Men fought World War One

Image

Image of myself
Ageing in dusty attic
While I renew Me

Look at the image
Then up at the mountain range
Which seems to have grown

Yesterday's photo
Mismatched to body image
Must photoshop me

Call

Fixing my makeup
Before final curtain call
Onto a new stage

Being a doctor
Hearing pain behind the call
Responding quickly

Myriad birds call
Ushering in the morning
Such a chirpiness

Haiku on Test/ Don't/ Wicked/ Infect

Test

Steady longbow pull
Ancient test of strength and nerve
Mark the arrow's flight

She pouts, flouncing off
It's a test for a young man
Just say: "Please come back"

Test results were bad
But then effort was lacking
No gain without pain

Don’t

Advice for piskies
With humans, hide in curtains
Don't move a muscle

Sign at vampire's lair:
'Crosses, salt, garlic don't work.
Private. Don't enter.'

Dad's Army in war
The catch cry was 'Don't Panic'
Headless disarray

Wicked

A small conundrum
Is dark chocolate wicked
When on a diet

Special birthday treat
Wicked dark chocolate cake
Third birthday this week

Hannibal Lecter
Archetype of wickedness
Twisted evil mind

Infect

Infected by you
So deeply under my skin
Affecting my soul

We know so little
One bug decides to divide
Infects your whole day

Human contact kills
Infection with Ebola
The deadliest kiss

HAIKU on Not/ Ride/ Crowd/ Fog

Not

Chirping excitement
Birds announce it will not rain
The rest of today

It's not the first time
Guess it will not be the last
Slept through the alarm

Such concentration
Carried tea across the room
Not a drop was spilled

No and not of things
Define empty existence
They really should not

Ride

Ride the winds of change
Evolving with the tempests
Voicing your thunder

Not sure why I'm here
Saw this double decker bus
And came for the ride

She was riding me
Pushing me on to new heights
Really ecstatic

Crowd

The big decision
Did gladiators fight well
The crowd's thumbs are down

Stand out from the crowd
Maintain positivity
In the face of gloom

A crowd of haiku
Jostling for recognition
And perhaps a star

Fog

Through a glass darkly
Fog of my mind slowly clears
Leaving eyes misty

Standing on cliff top
Counting lighthouse sweep seconds
Mournful fog horn sounds

High level meeting
The fog of doubt slowly clears
Protagonists beam

Feel warm with fever
Over three degrees from rage
Climb into bed bare

Haiku on About/ Much/ Put/ Justice

About

That is about right
Perhaps a bit lower down
Can you scratch harder

Steer the boat about
Think we need to head for home
Before the tide turns

A cloud white happy
Not thinking about raining
On someone's parade

Much

Low tide, still water
Reflections on life and love
Don't need much prompting

Not so much to say
More in the touch of your smile
And light in your eyes

I don't ask for much
But then I need all of you
Its just our secret

Put

Put T on the end
And chase the little white ball
To the final green

Life in the fast lane
Put your foot on the pedal
And never let up

Put foot in your mouth
Keep on saying stupid things
Poor politician

Justice

Too late to be scared
Justice finally caught up
You can relax now

The scales of Justice
A sword in her other hand
Wearing a blindfold

Paying a late fine
Scared of other penalties
Where is the justice?

Use time carefully
Do justice to your life goals
Don't 'waste' or 'fill in'

Haiku on Break/ Always/ Outrage/ Original

Break

Then it dawned on me
The light playing with my eyes
Was the break of day

Break with tradition
Rushing to work no longer
I am retiring

Snap, crackle and pop
The satisfying mouth sounds
As a biscuit breaks

Always

Always remember
Even in a weak moment
You are simply you

Weathered, perhaps scarred
Even at the end of time
Mountains always stand

Even when time's up
Always look on the bright side
You made a difference

Outrage

Powers feed outrage
Supplying rockets and bombs
Frontline pawns dying

I want it all now
You promised I could have it
Three year old's outrage

Recent solar flare
Sun's outrage at father's world
And tribal disputes

Original

Make original
Got the details together
Novel arrangement

Very small detail.
To make an original
Got to make it up

She's original
Need to make out the detail
Got to get real close

Haiku on Wonder/ Journey/ List/ Teach

Wonder

Climbing life's mountains
New vistas fill with wonder
And mountains to climb

Small cloud evolving
In an otherwise blue sky
Wonder about rain

You are a wonder
I can never tire of you
Daily surprises

Journey

Worked here for a while
Then moved to another life
A good journey man

Each emotion counts
Enjoy the inner journey
Minute by minute

Interesting times
World driven by violence
Journey to darkness

List

A list to starboard
Definitely right leaning
Finally drops off

Finally got it
I don't need all these pressures
Drop the bucket list

Begin with a list
Drop each one by the wayside
Finally at peace

Teach

Its not what you teach
But what others think they hear
That gets remembered

The school of hard knocks
Said to teach life's real lessons
Maybe just leaves scars

Every time I teach
I find I learn something new
The student challenge
